Susanna Osterreich, with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, introduces the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, or NPT, held at the UN headquarters. The conference, despite active engagement from states parties, failed to reach consensus on an outcome document. Ambassador Viet, the conference president, acknowledges the disappointment and emphasizes the importance of the treaty as a cornerstone of the global disarmament and nonproliferation regime, and calls for continued constructive engagement.
